The City of Greensboro in Guilford County, North Carolina is an important cultural and economic component of the Piedmont Triad. The Triad, named for the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, is a large regional hub of manufacturing and transportation activity. Greensboro’s southwest quadrant is the portion of the city that cradles the Piedmont Triad International Airport—situated west of Westridge Road and south of West Market Street on the eastern side of Guilford College Road. Fifty years ago, Southwest Greensboro was mainly a suburban community, developing around the campus of University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).
